Regional Engagement Leads and Kaiārahi work with the Ministry of Education to design national and local engagement opportunities.

Minister of Education opens the conversation on the future of NCEA.

Minister of Education appoints a Professional Advisory Group made up of principals and teachers, to work alongside the Ministerial Advisory Group to provide advice to him and the Ministry of Education on the NCEA Review.

NCEA Make your Mark competition winners announced.

Public engagement closes.

October 2018 - April 2019

The Ministry works with the education profession and others to identify the best ideas from the review process plus the best available evidence to assess what is viable and feasible, and how this would work in practice.

May 2019

Minister and Cabinet consider recommended change proposals.

Late 2019

Detailed change design and implementation approach agreed by Cabinet.

From 2020

Support for changes is available for schools, kura and others.

2020/21 and beyond

Depending on agreed level of change, improvements to NCEA may be phased in from 2020/21 and beyond.
