Expressions of Interest to join the NCEA Review of Achievement Standards (RAS) Subject Expert Groups (SEGs)

The NCEA Review of Achievement Standards will commence in 2020 as part of the NCEA Change Package. We are calling for Expressions of Interest to join Subject Expert Groups for wāhanga ako in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA), as well as some subjects in the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC).

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa

We are calling for Expressions of Interest for SEGs representing each wāhanga ako in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA):

  • Hauora
  • Hangarau
  • Pāngarau
  • Pūtaiao
  • Ngā Toi
  • Tikanga ā-Iwi

Te Reo Māori

We are calling for Expressions of Interest for Te Reo Māori SEGs:

  • Te Reo Māori (NZC)
  • Te Reo Māori (TMoA)

It is envisaged that Te Reo Māori groups will undergo a parallel process, and that these two SEGs will work closely with one another to ensure the development of assessment standards which are fit for purpose.

What will the Subject Expert Groups do?

The Subject Expert Groups will work in collaboration with Ministry facilitators and technical writers to identify the significant learning in their wāhanga ako/subject, and develop new NCEA Level 1 achievement standards and associated resource material, based on the NCEA Change Package.

Some SEGs may work together, within and/or across curricula, and members of some SEGs may also be asked to sit on other expert groups or on supporting reference groups.

Application Details

Each Subject Expert Group is expected to have 4-8 representatives.

Applicants should:

  • have expertise or experience in the wāhanga ako/subject.
  • have an interest and expertise in learning and assessment within that wāhanga ako/subject.
  • be proficient in te reo Māori and for te reo Māori learning areas, have a working knowledge of second language acquisition.
  • be prepared to commit to approximately 10 days in 2020 (kanohi ki te kanohi hui) for initial development, as well as 4 hours in online hui.
  • going forward, the members of this group may be asked to commit to a further 6-8 days over 2021, 2022 and 2023.

We’re looking for a range of voices:

  • Experienced practising teachers and experts from a range of educational settings and backgrounds with special emphasis on Māori Medium settings, iwi, community, industry and tertiary education.
  • People with experience working with ākonga Māori, who can represent the rich diversity of our learners, including diversity of school setting, iwi, community and local context.
